Their story:
Millie came to Happyfields from Ireland, she had been inappropriately kept in a field with Jack donkeys (intact Males); she was very shy when she came to us and we were unsure of her age.
After a short while at Happyfields she became very loving, and we started to notice she was gaining weight. After getting the vet to check everything was ok, we found out she was pregnant!
The vet was concerned as he believed she was very young, he thought she may be approximately 18 months old; female donkeys normally breed from 2.5 to 3 years old; so they were worried she may not be able to cope; especially as donkeys are pregnant between 11-14½ months so it was hard to judge when she would give birth!
One morning, we came to Happyfields and were very worried as we could not see Millie, as she would normally greet us at the Gate. We found Millie in the stable with Baby Charlie standing next to her! She trusted us straight away with Charlie as she would allow us to interact with him a lot.
Charlie has been a very pampered boy from day one! He has always been a character, liked being picked up and carried around; as well as sitting on everyone’s laps!
When you see them together, you will notice they look very similar, you can tell the difference as Charlie is bigger than his mom, but no matter how big he gets, he always likes to rest his head on his mom!.
